PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey circus is packing to leave Rhode Island, a day after a shocking accident during a live performance sent eight aerial performers doing a hair-hanging stunt plummeting to the ground.
Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare (PA'-ree) says on Monday that the circus is packing up and moving to Connecticut, where the circus has shows scheduled to start Thursday.
Feld Entertainment, the parent company of the circus, says it plans to travel to Hartford on Tuesday. It says shows will proceed as scheduled through Sunday.
Public safety officials say a carabiner clip failed.
Feld says they are replacing every carabiner in the show before Thursday. The hair-hang act will not be included. Feld says other aerial acts will undergo a full safety inspection before performing.
