PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A judge has ordered a fire district in Lincoln to be fined $5,000 for violating the state's open meetings law several times.
The attorney general's office says on Monday that Superior Court Judge Joseph Montalbano levied the fine on the Manville Fire District.
Despite complaints, the district held several meetings in a second floor location at the fire station that is not accessible to disabled people, preventing some from attending the meetings.
Montalbano also ordered the district that it must no longer hold meetings in a place that is not accessible to people with disabilities.
The attorney general's office sued the district in 2012.
