Happy Birthday And R.I.P. To The Late, Great Jimi Hendrix

Today is the birthday of one of the most important artists of the last century, Jimi Hendrix.  We've talked about his musical genius; unparalleled playing, passion, and soul.  Something that's overlooked is his role in race relations in America.  While not a direct radical voice in the civil rights movement his contribution was on a personal level with an entire generation of young, white Americans. He was regarded as the greatest rock guitarist of his time and a one-man creative force and the fact that he was black was virtually a non-factor to millions which meant a lot at that time.  He was the voice of a generation regardless of color; a huge step for a nation evolving out of a recently segregated history.  Check out the trailer below and if you have time tonight, watch the entire documentary. The power of rock to change civilization was embodied in this unassuming genius.  RIP Jimi Hendrix.
