"Combined" No-Hitters Are Simply Not "No-Hitters"

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - NOVEMBER 02: Rafael Montero #47, Bryan Abreu #52, Cristian Javier #53, Christian Vazquez #9 and Ryan Pressly #55 of the Houston Astros pose for a photo after pitching for a combined no-hitter to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 in Game Four of the 2022 World Series at Citizens Bank Park on November 02, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Combined no-hitters are symbolic of what is wrong with the world today… To throw a no-hitter you have to start the game in the first inning and still be standing at the end of the game… If you pitch six no- hit innings… that's great… but it's not a no-hitter… It is in fact three innings shy of a no-hitter… If you come in from the bullpen and pitch a hitless inning… that's great… but it is not a no-hitter… It is in fact eight innings shy of a no-hitter…

If you and I and 25 of our closest friends go to New York City this weekend and each run roughly a mile in the New York City Marathon… none of us can claim to have run the full marathon....

You want to throw a no-hitter? Get me 27 outs without giving up a hit.
