Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Posts Video Message Following Cancer Diagnosis

Just over a week removed from announcing that he was beginning treatment for throat cancer, Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine has issued a video message to concerned fans.

Mustaine's signature curly reddish-blond mane is itself an encouraging sight as the video begins. He smiles warmly as he delivers his latest statement through a horse voice.

"Hi. I wanted to take a moment real quick and thank my family, my friends and the best fans in the world for all of your support and love over the news few days," he said. "We're gonna beat this thing together."

The 13-second video (which you can watch in the player above or here) isn't as informative as the legendary guitarist's initial statement on his illness, but fans will appreciate seeing Mustaine's face. He and his Megadeth band mates have projected a unified front of optimism since getting the grave news.

"It's clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I've faced obstacles before," he wrote a little over a week ago. "I'm working closely with my doctors, and we've mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun."

In the wake of Mustaine's diagnosis, Megadeth has canceled all of its 2019 concerts, with the exception of the inaugural Megacruise this October. Mustaine emphasized that the cruise will take place, and the band will be involved in whatever capacity possible.

Co-founding Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson said last week that the band plans to continue work on its forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2016's Grammy-winner, Dystopia, while Mustaine undergoes treatment.

"The studio, the house that we have is right next door to Dave's property," Ellefson explained. "...So it's easy enough to be able to check in on stuff. And the days when Dave's feeling good, great. If there's days he's not, hey, no worries."
