Column: Bad Calls Cost Sox Game Four

I know MLB games can go 4 hours plus pretty routinely , but these games can come down to one bad call...

Tuesday night the Red Sox lost 9-2 and Laz Diaz the home plate umpire made 2 horrible calls on balls and strikes, either one of which could’ve changed the outcome of the game.

The third inning , called third strike on JD Martinez was terrible and took the bat out of JD ‘s hands with 2 runners on…… The worst was in the 9th inning…..Nate Eovaldi gives up a leadoff double and then dominates with back to back K’s…..then Jason Castro looks at strike three but Diaz doesn’t call it...It should’ve ended the inning tied at 2…..instead 7 runs later the Astros have a 9-2 win and the series is even at 2 apiece.

If you watch a game on TV they show the graphic of the strike zone and show where the ball came in. How about we get Laz a chair….park him in the fungo circle so he can call plays at the plate, out or safe…..and let the computer handle the balls and strikes….

If we did that in game 4 the Sox might be up 3-1 in this series…
