Bounty Hunter In Westerly Charged With Kidnapping

A man who reportedly engaged in bounty-hunting activity in Westerly is facing a kidnapping charge.

Douglas White of Lanesborough, Massachusetts, is accused of breaking into the home of an alleged bail-jumper and illegally detaining them in September.

Police Chief Shawn Lacey said White and two associates entered the home inappropriately, and that White has been previously made aware he could not detain someone in Rhode Island.

Lacey said bounty-hunting is only allowed in the state if it is directly related to a federal warrant, which wasn't the case in this instance.
