Gov Signs Bill To Help Ease Teacher Shortages

Governor Dan McKee has quickly signed legislation to temporarily allow retired teachers to serve as substitutes for a full school year without giving up their pensions.

The law is effective through the end of the 2023/2024 school year.

Substitutes normally face a 90-day limit.

McKee says the state must address its teacher shortage on multiple fronts.

The Governor says that although he was pleased to sign the bill, the issue of drawing more teachers into the state must continue on many fronts.
