Governor Dan McKee's proposed reduction of the Rhode Island sales tax that he announced during his State of the State speech earlier this year has not survived the state budget process.
House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi said the sales tax cut, with much regret, had to be removed.
McKee proposed shrinking the tax from seven to six-point-eight-five percent.
Shekarchi encouraged McKee to bring this back to the table next legislative session.
