Maritime experts are looking for lessons from the container ship collision that destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.
Rhode Island's comparison would include the Newport Bridge, which large vessels must pass under while traveling in Narragansett Bay.
The focus has been on pilots, who board vessels and take them through local waterways, due to their knowledge and expertise in the areas in question.
Jason McNamee chairs the Rhode Island State Pilotage Commission and says incidents like the one in Baltimore are taken under review and studied.
Two pilots were aboard the M/V Dali when it struck the Key Bridge early Tuesday.
The incident remains under investigation.
