His family says Alan Shawn Feinstein, the educational philanthropist whose mantra was to better the world by bettering one person at a time died over the weekend at the age of 93.
The Feinstein Foundation in a statement the knowledge that the foundation wlll continue to do good work was of great comfort.
Governor McKee in a statement said: “Alan Shawn Feinstein was more than a philanthropist. He was a change agent who invested in the lives and futures of Rhode Island's children. We will always remember him, not just for his impact on education but for his kind and full heart.” Funeral arrangements are set for September 21, with services limited to the family. The funeral, however, will be live streamed.
Senator Jack Reed called Mr Feinstein "a transformational philanthropist," who helped countless numbers of children.
Mayor Brett Smiley said: "Alan Shawn Feinstein's legacy of generosity, compassion and dedication to education has profoundly impacted our community. His lifelong commitment to supporting and uplifting students, families and educators has inspired countless acts of service and will continue to inspire for generations to come."
