Winter Storm Watch For RI From Sunday Morning Through Monday Evening

Rhode Island will be under a Winter Storm Watch from Sunday morning through Monday evening.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say six to 12-inches of accumulation is possible with some areas seeing more than a foot of snow.

The storm is expected to impact roads with bridges, overpasses and elevated roadways becoming slick and hazardous.

Travel on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning is likely to become very difficult, and folks should stay off the roads is possible.

The Providence Emergency Management Agency says Arctic air will bring dangerously cold conditions to the region beginning tonight.

There is an Extreme Cold Alert due to cold temperatures and wind chill values that could drop to around minus-10-degrees.

Officials say this level of cold is extremely dangerous and anyone spending prolonged time outdoors is at serious risk of frostbite and freezing.

Time outdoors should be limited and those who must be outside should dress in warm layers and cover exposed skin.

Residents are asked to check on vulnerable neighbors and loved ones.
