Brutal Cold- Huge Snow Torals- Some Sleet Hit Region

A two-thousand-mile-long winter storm is bearing down on millions of Americans. Forecasters say a "crippling ice storm" fueled by an arctic blast is blanketing about 200-million people from New Mexico to New England.

At least a dozen states have declared emergencies for heavy snow, thick ice and extreme cold.

Heavy snow is possible from the Texas Panhandle to Upstate New York, with higher elevations accumulating up to two feet.

Only Connecticut, so far, has declared a State Of Emergency. This will allow Governor Ned Lamont some extended safety powers. It will also make it easier to recoup extraordinary expenses because of the storm. He has also asked motorists to avoid driving until at least after Monday morning.

Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as of this writing have not made any declarations.

The three states however have banned commercial vehicles on their highways until further notice.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has announced all non-essential state employees will be working from home.

Airlines are warning flyers to expect cancellations and delays as a major winter storm tightens its grip on most of the U.S.

According to FlightAware, over 34-hundred flights have been delayed so far. Meanwhile, over 600 have been canceled so far today.

Chicago O'Hare, Denver International and Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson are seeing the most cancellations at last check.
