Rhode Island's Congressional delegation is requesting a federal emergency declaration due to the impact of the historic winter storm.
U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Representatives Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo are urging President Trump to make federal assistance available to Rhode Island if requested, to support emergency operations and recovery due to the blizzard.
The delegation has sent the President a letter saying in part that there's no reason that FEMA cannot utilize the more than nine-billion-dollars currently in the Disaster Relief Fund, which continues to be available during a shutdown.
