Warwick Police are alerting the public to a grandparent scam.
The phone scam targets older adults with callers pretending to be an attorney by the name of Michael Dempsey who claims that a grandchild has been arrested and needs money for bail or legal fees.
The victim is told to withdraw money, and a courier will be sent to their home to collect the money.
Police say the scammers sometimes tell the victim to lie to bank employees and say the money is needed for a home renovation.
Anyone receiving a call like this should hang up, call a family member to make sure everyone is safe and contact the Warwick Police Department.
