RI Joins Suit Against Trump Administration Over Mail-In Ballot Order

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha, 23 counterparts and one governor are suing the Trump Administration over an executive order that would create a national voter information database.

Under the order, the Postal Service must also verify that mail-in ballots are sent to and returned by people who are eligible to vote.

Neronha says the President is attempting to undermine elections and he cannot be permitted to bypass the Constitution by threatening to withhold congressionally approved funding.

Neronha and the coalition also claim the President's order violates the separation of powers and unlawfully interferes with states' mail voting programs.
