Rhode Island State Police Arrest Six In Alleged Vehicle Theft Ring

Rhode Island State Police have arrested six men following an investigation into an alleged vehicle theft ring and chop shop operation in Providence.

The Auto Theft Task Force began an investigation in October after noticing irregularities that indicated a vehicle it was inspecting was stolen.

Police identified the person trying to register the vehicle and found he was known to frequent a suspected chop shop on Danforth Street.

Investigators carried out a search warrant at the location and found VIN-altering tools, stolen equipment and a stolen vehicle.

Arrest warrants were issued and police seized six stolen vehicles, worth around 500-thousand-dollars.
