The Rhode Island Ethics Commission has voted to investigate a complaint filed against former House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi.
The Democratic lawmaker stepped down from his House leadership role to pursue a seat on the state Supreme Court and a professor at the Roger Williams University School of Law filed a complaint.
Professor Michael Yelnosky claims Shekarchi is violating Rhode Island's "revolving door" law requiring lawmakers to wait a year after leaving elected office to pursue a state job.
Shekarchi said Tuesday that he has no comment until the Ethics Commission completes its due diligence.
