Flying Insect Populations on the Decline

Are pesky flying insects a nuisance that you wish you could live without? Absolutely. Can you live without them? Not a chance- which makes recent studies into insect populations around the world rather startling. One study in Germany recorded an 80% drop in flying insects captured compared to numbers from 27 years prior. A similar study in Costa Rica found the same absence of insects. If, like myself, the thought of living without insects is a comforting idea, consider the fact that every living thing on earth depends on them to pollinate vegetation for our food and oxygen. It is not yet conclusive what exactly is causing this decline in numbers, and the answer to how to restore them is even farther out.
