If you felt strangle rumbling under foot this weekend...you weren't mistaken! There were 3, yes 3 earthquakes in Rhode Island this weekend.
There is a fault line that runs along Narragansett Pier and apparently it had some motion in the ocean Saturday & Sunday. The quakes came early Saturday morning, an aftershock Saturday evening and another aftershock Sunday morning all between Narragansett and Block Island. The quakes registered a 2.2 on Saturday at 4:42 AM, a 2.5 at 10:15 PM Saturday night and 2.2 on Sunday morning at 2:40 AM.
That's not the only action that the Northeast has gotten over the last few months.
If you spend just a few minutes looking through NESEC's (Northeast States Emergency Consortium) website or Twitter, you'll see there's been plenty of action this spring. And a little further searching shows the potential damage/threat an earthquake could cause here in the Northeast.
