We're giving away Mellencamp tickets this week and several of our listeners have mentioned that it seemed the show was sold out even though they logged on at the exact moment they went on sale. That seems to be happening a lot these days so, if you really want to see a show, you're forced to buy tickets from secondary sellers who (hey, it's pure capitalism) can charge what the market will bare.
Last week we got a leak on a story that will be coming out that is an investigative report on Ticketmaster. According to these reporters there were some people inside the business who were colluding with these secondary sellers (white-collar scalpers) and profiting a second time on these tickets.
Over the years some artists have tried to bypass or hold Ticketmaster accountable but when there's a monopoly that's nearly impossible.
I know there may be more pressing issues facing the country but it may take a Congressional hearing to expose what the hell is going on in the concert biz these days. Get Jack Reed on the phone!!!!
