YES Was Once What Paul Thought Was The Future Of Rock

Today is the birthday of Jon Anderson, lead singer of the original prog band, YES. They were in their prime when I started in radio and, at the time, I thought ‘THIS is the future of rock!’  Their musicianship, creativity, cosmic lyrics, psychedelic album covers, etc. indicated that the future was wide open to infinite musical possibilities… boy, was I WRONG!!!  That year disco made its appearance and its predictable, danceable beats swept the country and YES continued to make cool, esoteric rock but was certainly not the future of rock.  Although they are still fascinating to listen to so go ahead dive in and listen to as much as this as you can (are you at work???)
