Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" Almost Never Saw The Light Of Day. Here's Why...

Ozzy Osbourne And Corey Taylor Special Announcement

HOLLYWOOD, CA - MAY 12: Musician Geezer Butler (L) and singer Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath attend the Ozzy Osbourne and Corey Taylor special announcement at the Hollywood Palladium on May 12, 2016 in Hollywood, California. Geezer Butler recalled the moment Tony Iommi played the song “Paranoid” to his Black Sabbath bandmates. He apparently came up with the riff as a ‘filler’ to complete their album but the band initially refused to work on it because Ozzy and Geezer thought it was too close to ‘Communication Breakdown’ by Led Zeppelin. Butler said, "We loved Zeppelin in them days, sitting round on the floor smoking dope and listening to that first album. Ozzy spotted it immediately and went, ‘Nah, we can’t do that!’” Geezer added “That’s the thing about rock ’n’ roll – everyone borrows, especially when they’re young. It’s putting your own stamp on it that counts." And they certainly did that.
