Whoa! This weekend is the 50th anniversary of the single release of Lynyrd Skynyrd's legendary, timeless tune, "Sweet Home Alabama."

The song was released on July 27th, 1974 off of their Second Helping album. Skynyrd's late guitarist Gary Rossington says their late singer Ronnie Van Zant's lyrics to the song were somewhat inspired by Neil Young, but also celebrated some of the things that he liked about the state at the time.
