The Most Humbling Thing in Sports

Kyrie Irving has decided to opt in with the Nets and take his option year at 36.9 million dollars....

In his announcement on social media he presents it as if he was a martyr for basically grabbing the guaranteed money

It has been a rough road for Irving and the Nets over the past couple of years...

The dream roster in Brooklyn has crumbled before our eyes....

Boston Celtics v Brooklyn Nets - Game Four

Kyrie was talking about leaving.....

and the Nets were ready to show him the door....

One problem....

No takers....

The Nets needed to find a sign and trade partner for Irving in order to make everybody happy....

The line of possible teams was not a long one.....actually just 1 team....The Lakers....

The Nets didn't like what was coming back to them in a possible Laker deal, so the number of trade partners dropped to 0

Then came the most humbling moment in any player's career.....

More humbling than being benched...being traded....being released....

When the front office says, "You want to leave and we want you to leave....but we've asked everyone and nobody seems to want you....

So feel free to talk to other teams...any team...and if you find one willing to take you , let us know....."

The lowest of lows...

.

When your employer asks you to join in on the search to find somewhere to dump you so they can be rid of you.....

That is more embarrassing than professing that the Earth is flat...

More awkward than being at a family birthday party while your team is playing...

More distressing than being swept by your former team in the first round of the playoffs...
