Biofabrication Could Help Save the Environment

Science and technology have come together once again to create something awesome. Biology is the basis for everything, and it only makes sense to go back to the basics to save the environment. Using biofabrication could help in doing this, it could change the textile industry as we know it. Perhaps the next industrial revolution?

Biofabrication is creating materials or rather growing them from living organisms. They can grow things like cotton for clothes, bricks for housing and even plastics from things like bacteria fungi yeast and algae. It's quite remarkable how much cotton they could grow in just a few days, that would normally take months. Not only is this a green resource, but it is also using less energy to create the fabric. Suzanne Lee goes into detail in her TED talk, check it out here.
