Reason number 1,453 why running a marathon is not for me.
A participant in a marathon in Northern Ireland this year had double duty. He was both a runner and a "pacer" who helps encourage those running in a marathon to power on. So Once he completed his bit, he stepped in to keep encouraging others to finish the race. The interesting part of this story is how he did that.
You'll notice that the runner's shirt is stained. Not with those weird pouches of goo marathoners tend to squirt into their mouths while running, not with water or Gatorade. But rather...blood. Yup. His nipples were bleeding. And he used that pain and honestly, suffering, to get those still running to continue on.
Apparently bloody nipples happen to a lot of runners. Not me...because that's reason enough for me to just cheer from the sidelines with my nipples in tact, thanks!
