I absolutely believe David Ortiz belongs in the Hall of Fame... just not on the first ballot....
The reasons for eventually being in are many...
-541 Home Runs
-3 World Series Titles
-7 times in top 10 in MVP voting
-7 Silver Slugger Awards
-10 time All Star
-1 of 4 to have 500 HRs and 3 World Championships
The reasons it shouldn't have been on the first ballot are 2
-Yes, the positive test for PEDs in 2003 is one...
-The more important reason for waiting a year or 2 is that he was a DH
...no defensive numbers ...there are many players in Cooperstown that have not been great defensive players, but at least they were " full time" players.....(and spare me the argument that pitchers don't play every day and AL pitchers don't bat....it's not the same....throwing 90 pitches in a game versus getting 3-4 at bats as the DH are not equivalent ....)
I am a Big Papi fan.....
He is a Hall of Famer....
But not on the first ballot....
