Could Daryl Hall Have Been The Lead Singer of Van Halen Post-Dave?

Was Daryl Hall once asked by Eddie Van Halen to join Van Halen after David Lee Roth's initial departure in the mid-80's? Daryl says Eddie did indeed ask him to join the band, that Eddie was maybe half-joking, but maybe also half-serious.
