Weird Al Yankovic Remembers Amusing Encounter With Kurt Cobain

Weird Al Yankovik had one of his bigger hit parodies off of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Weird Al had to get permission from Kurt Cobain to record and publish the song and he actually ran into the Nirvana lead singer at an LA restaurant a few months after his parody hit the airwaves and became a best seller. As Weird Al tells it, “I timidly went over and thanked him profusely for letting me do ‘Smells Like Nirvana’, and told him I was now obligated to do him a favor. I offered to pay his bill but he turned his head, extended his hand, and said, ‘Polish my nails.’ Everyone busted out laughing, I loved that guy.”
