Guitar Legend Rick Derringer Passes Away at 77

The amazing Rick Derringer passed away on Monday at the age of 77 in Ormond Beach, Florida. He was reportedly in intensive care following a medical episode and died "peacefully" in his sleep after being taken off life support. He was surrounded by his wife, Jenda, and close friend ,Tony Wilson.

Born Richard Dean Zehringer on August 5, 1947 in Celina, Ohio, his first taste of fame was as a teenager in 1965 the with The McCoys and their hit song, “Hang on Sloopy.” He later had another hit on his own in 1973 with “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo.”

Derringer also worked with Steely Dan, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Alice Cooper, KISS, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Cyndi Lauper, and Ringo Starr. He also wrote wrestler Hulk Hogan's theme song, "Real American."
