Ousted Who Drummer Starkey Calls B.S. on Daltrey's "Retired" Claim

The Who Kicks Off Las Vegas Residency At Caesars Palace

Whoa - this story about Zak Starkey's time with The Who coming to an end keeps getting better: Starkey has taken exception to Roger Daltrey saying they "retired" him, writing in a post online, "This is total [crap].

"I was fired …

"Roger’s new word for it is ‘retired’ to complete my other musical projects.

"So this is simply a load of [crap] … Am I fired, retired, definitely not tired as I’m 20 years younger than these guys as they keep saying.

"Dropping two beats on our second show is not a firing offense -- I’ve watched the show on TV [and] I can’t see where I dropped them -- I looked everywhere -- it’s The Who. If it was perfect it would be so boring …"

The Who have not responded to Starkey's post and the bottom line is that he will not be part of their two shows in Italy in late July followed by their final North American Tour in August and September. Scott Devours from Daltrey's band will sit in.
