Led Zeppelin and the music world were dealt a devastating blow 45 years ago today on Sept. 25, 1980, when the genius drummer John Bonham died at the age of 32.

Following a day of rehearsals for Zeppelin's upcoming fall U.S. tour, Bonham, who drank heavily all day, fell asleep at Jimmy Page's house in Windsor, England. He was put in bed and that's where he was found later in the day, having choked on his own vomit.

If you've forgotten what an otherworldly drummer Bonham was, perhaps this "Moby Dick" drum solo from Madison Square Garden in 1973 will refresh your memory. Check it out HERE.
